Board of Directors Minutes

November 2, 2023

Location: Fishman Law Firm

 

In attendance:

Officers: President Marcus Coenen, Vice President Dave Busiek, Treasurer Jay Cox-Kozel, Secretary Nicholas Mertes

Board: Eddie Fishman, Kylie Spies, Karla Rangel, Craig Vandeventer, Chris Friest, Therese Herold,

Guests: None

 

  1. Call to Order at 7:00 pm – Marcus Coenen
  2. Approval of Agenda: Motion carried.
  • Approval of October meeting minutes: Motion carried
  1. Treasurer’s Report and monthly financials: motion carried/approved.
    1. Finances in solid shape, on track overall
    2. Polk County grant change- capped at $5000 in 2024. Will impact Bluegrass fundraising.
    3. Submit 2024 budget estimate to Jay as soon as possible
  2. Public Comment: None
  3. Booverdale event award selection (Therese)
    1. Best group: Palomita
    2. Best individual: Curbin Cuisine (Misty)
    3. Most creative: American Realty
  • Scholarship Research findings (Craig)
    1. Due to administrative burden, may be ideal to partner with an existing scholarship program. Dollars for Scholars at Hoover High School is most straightforward option.
    2. Can name scholarship as desired, target specific group (e.g. underclassmen or seniors specifically)
    3. Craig will reach out to organization for more details on next steps
  • Holiday Happenings update – December 2nd
    1. Adam Plagge has purchased a tree, Beaverdale Bikes sponsoring and managing bike ride. Santa lined up for story time, goodie bags, etc.
  1. Succession planning
    1. Marcus terms off in February. Anyone interested in running for President asked to reach out. Want to ensure continuity on projects such as Strategic Planning, Douglas corridor, 48th & Franklin, website, etc.
  2. Quarterly meeting topics
    1. Neighborhood survey results (Kylie) tentatively planned for review at Annual meeting in February
  3. Other business
    1. Need to look at restructuring committees (e.g. special events)
    2. Think about ideas around helping to encourage neighborhood engagement- volunteering, board service, etc.
    3. Selection of winners for membership drive
