40th Street Family Builds Dream Home Next Door

The property next door to the Sikkinks -- where they would eventually build their dream home -- initially housed a tiny, outdated home set deep in an underlandscaped lot.

Traditional "Beaverdale bricks" line the Sikkink's street.

The bright-colored walls visible in the rubble are the work of artist Carlye, the Sikkinks' daughter.

Penny Sikkink (middle) and her two children, Carlye and Bret, pose for pictures in front of the demolished home.

A spray-painted sign announces the future address of the Sikkink 's dream home -- 2205 40th St.
