Beaverdale Artist Roy Cacek Makes the Des Moines Art Festival
Fifteen hundred applications were submitted to the 2006 Des Moines Arts Festival, and of the 150 professional artists juried into the festival, only 12 are from Iowa. Roy Cacek, the only Des Moines resident to display his paintings at this year's festival said, "I am excited to show my work to the hometown crowd. It is an honor to b e one of the few Iowa artists selected for this show."
Painting and drawing have been lifelong passions for Roy and his recent passion involves a new way of interpreting the world around him. Starting with the most basic shape, the square, his work can best be termed representational abstracts. It is through variation of color, value and intensity that the squares combine to create recognizable images. Each piece is unique in that the colors and squares are abstract when viewed up close but become recognizable images when viewed from a distance.

Royıs original acrylic paintings are displayed in corporate and private collections and galleries throughout the North America.
