BNA Mission
The Beaverdale neighborhood Association is neighbors working together to promote the social welfare of the Beaverdale area by bringing about civic betterment and social improvements for the common good and general welfare of the community.

The BNA is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, nonprofit organization. Your company may have a matching funds program.

Dear friends and neighbors,

As you know, Hy-Vee, Inc. recently hosted a meeting at Hoover High School where the company revealed its plans for a new grocery store just west of Beaver Avenue and south of Douglas Avenue in Beaverdale. Hy-Vee’s proposal has also received much attention from the local media.

Some have asked if there would be additional opportunities to hear from Hy-Vee about their plans. The BNA Board of Directors approached Hy-Vee about scheduling more meetings and Hy-Vee has agreed to do so. We are pleased to announce two additional meetings at which Hy-Vee will discuss its proposal for a Beaverdale location:

1.  This Thursday, August 30, a special meeting of the BNA Board of Directors will be held to discuss Hy-Vee’s Beaverdale plans with a representative of Hy-Vee. This meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. at Calvin Community (4210 Hickman Road) on the Garden (lower) Level. The primary purpose of this meeting is informational and arises out of Hy-Vee’s interest in speaking directly with the BNA Board about its plans. No action will be taken by the BNA Board at this meeting. All BNA Board meetings are open to the public and you are welcome to attend.

2.  On Tuesday, September 4, representatives from Hy-Vee will again review and discuss their proposed Beaverdale location with the neighborhood at large. This meeting will take place at 6:00 p.m. at the Northwest Community Center (5110 Franklin Avenue). The BNA Board asked Hy-Vee to hold another meeting similar to its Hoover High School meeting in recognition of the fact a number of people attempted to attend the Hoover meeting and were unable to fit into the meeting room. Others may have missed it due to another conflict. If you were unable to attend the Hoover meeting, please consider coming to this one.

The BNA Board’s regularly-scheduled September board meeting is being moved back one week to avoid conflicting with the Fourth Annual Neighborhood Summit, a regional event taking place in Des Moines this year. The next BNA Board meeting will now take place on Thursday, September 13, at 7:00 p.m. at Calvin Community on the Garden (lower) Level. Hy-Vee’s proposed Beaverdale store will be on the agenda for this meeting, and the Board may choose to take action related to the proposal at the meeting. Once again, all BNA Board meetings are open to the public and you are welcome to attend.

The BNA Board continues to seek your feedback about Hy-Vee’s plans for a Beaverdale location. We especially would like to learn why you feel as you do about this topic. If you have something to share, please e-mail me at BNAPresident@beaverdale.org. Your response will be shared with the Board and other local leaders, including city councilmen Tom Vlassis and Chris Coleman, and may be posted anonymously on the BNA website (beaverdale.org).

See you around the neighborhood,

Bill

President, BNA
